Drama Club & Thespian Society
Drama Club
The East Grand Rapids H.S. Drama Club is open to all EGRHS students with an interest in theatre. The club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, at 3:10 p.m. in the Little Auditorium. Audition information, show needs, fundraising, and trips are discussed.
EGRHS Drama Students/Alum participate in 2011 Art Prize
A local storyteller/musician/playwright invited the EGRHS Drama program to help present his 2011 Art Prize entry, the finale number to a new children's musical, RabbitMitten
by Alan Carriero. The musical is a fantastical account of how Michigan
came to be shaped the way it is. Twenty-seven EGRHS students performed
on September 25, 2011 at St. Cecelia Auditorium.

Theatre Trips
Drama Club has organized trips to Chicago to see Broadway touring productions.
Each May, the club
takes a 2-day bus trip to Stratford, Ontario to see 3 shows at the Stratford
Shakespeare Festival. The 2011 Stratford trip was May 27-28, 2011 and students were able to see 3 productions: Camelot, The Grapes of Wrath, and a choice of Jesus Christ Superstar or Richard III.
The 2012 trip is scheduled for May 25-26.
24 Hour Theatre SLAM!
Our first 24-Hour
Theatre Slam was held in 2008. It was such a huge success we have
repeated the fun every year!
The 4th annual 24-Hour Theatre SLAM was held October 14-15,
2011. EGRHS students
wrote, rehearsed
and performed several short original one-act plays all within a 24 hour period.
Twelve hours to write the script, and twelve to rehearse! Great fun!
Student Productions
Each year the club produces an all-student run show, which serves as another opportunity for students to become involved on the stage, as well as a successful fundraiser for the Club. Past shows have included, Midsummer Night's Dream, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Taming of the Shrew, Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, She Stoops to Conquer, The Open Window, and Hamlet.
Relay for Life
For the past 3 years the Drama Club has formed a team and participated in the East Grand Rapids Relay for Life
raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Information will be
available close to the even on how to participate, or how to donate.

International Thespian Society
EGRHS is a member of the International Thespian Society, troupe #4241. The International Thespian Society is an honorary organization for high-school and middle-school theatre students located at more than 3,600 affiliated secondary schools across America, Canada, and abroad. The mission of ITS is to honor student excellence in the theater arts; its motto is, "Act well your part; there all the honor lies."
Students earn Thespian points when they are involved in any aspect of our productions. The point system is determined by the ITS. After earning 10 points, a student is eligible to be inducted into our ITS Troupe #4241. Each May, a Thespian Society Induction and Awards Ceremony is held, where new members are inducted and existing members are recognized for additional Thespian points earned. Graduating Thespian seniors are also recognized during this moving ceremony which is a highlight of the school year. The Thespian Society Induction and Award ceremony for the 2011-12 school year will be held May 7, 2012, 7:30 p.m. in the Little Auditorium.
Membership in the International Thespian Society is a respected addition on college applications and the Thespian point system is the criteria by which the EGRHS Stage Boosters select scholarships for seniors.
