EGRHS Theatre Classes

East Grand Rapids High School offers 3 elective theatre classes: Theatre I and Theatre II and Theatre Production. Students taking any of these classes earn credit towards the required 1 credit Visual, Performing and Applied Arts credit needed for graduation. Each class is worth .5 credit. Contact Mrs. Steers for more information.

Theatre I

Theatre I is designed to expose students to an overview of all aspects of theatre performance and  production. Students will study major periods in theatre history, practice vocal and physical characterization, analyze and critique plays, and experiment with the technical side of a theatrical production.

Theatre II

Theatre II is designed for the serious actor and director. The focus of the class is an in depth experience into the performance side of theatre. Advance acting methods and theories will be explored. Directing techniques and script analysis will be studied as well. Activities such as monologues, scene work, and short one act plays will be the focus of the class. The basics of script writing and development of those works can be explored by interested students as an option. This class culminates in a full production each spring that is 100% prepared by the class. This class is only open to sophomores through seniors who have had some dramatic experience.

Theatre Production

Theatre Production offers interested theatre technicians the opportunity to explore, in depth, all aspects of backstage theatre: lighting, sound, set design, construction and painting, properties, publicity and stage management.
